‘The night closed with two works by choreographic couple Paul Lightfoot and Sol Leon. Both former dancers with NDT1 and now choreographers in residence, they know the company terrain well. Set to a poem by Gertrude Stein, Shutters Shut is four minutes of wit and contortion, as two dancers give shape to Stein’s words. Finally, Skew-Whiff proved that despite their youth, the dancers of NDT2 move beyond technical expertise into dramatic expression, and an emotional depth which belies their age.’
